Getting Organized At Home
In your home, you might have what are known as “drop zones”. One or more spaces where you tend to “drop” things and then forget about them. Because of this, your things will likely pile up or accumulate.
Some of the more common “drop zones” are:
• The front door area
• Coffee table
• Kitchen Counter
• Desk
• Bedroom Floor
• Chair
Probably the most important part of starting to organize your stuff is having the proper mindset. Motivate yourself to start organizing and then have that mindset and discipline yourself to keep your home as neat and orderly as possible.
You could also develop a certain system for keeping all of your things. There are a lot of organizing tools available nowadays, and most are often certainly found in your area. Boxes, containers, and racks now have different designs to suit your tastes.
Purchase these storage containers or boxes and place them in the “drop zone” areas, as well as other areas of your home, so that you may be reminded to put your things away.
Are you the type who makes lots of lists? But the trouble is looking and sifting through lots of lists looking for whatever. Our tip? Purchase a white board that you can put up in a visible area of your space. You can write down reminders here which will be easily seen.
Also, tackle one area or room at a time. If you go from room to room, fixing or organizing them simultaneously, you might feel overwhelmed by your tasks. Tackling areas or rooms one at a time tends to allow you to be able to focus more at the job at hand.
You can also ask some professional organizers for some more tips and advice, or hire them, to help you achieve your organizing goals. Having someone who will motivate you could help you to start becoming more organized.
